The inaugural Reinvention Award, presented by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), recognises achievement in reusing often-dilapidated buildings to improve their environmental, social or economic sustainability.

It was created to highlight the benefits of “retrofitting”, increasing the longevity and energy efficiency of existing buildings, reducing the need for demolition and new construction.

An award-winning, ecologically-minded design for a community-centric museum stems from a holistic redefinition of exhibition, storage and community spaces, all with no commensurate increase in energy use.
