Designing for students with special needs involves many challenges, notably how best to ‘de-institutionalise’ and humanise educational settings, but it also shows how good architecture can shape lives and experiences in a hugely positive way, through the creation of bright, airy and relaxed learning environments that also have a wider civic presence.
